Strength Beneath My Wings

"Strength Beneath My Wings"
2014

I can see the colors fading from these green leaves–hundreds, if not thousands of them reminding me of the sadness of a distant soul.

With every leaf and gravel rock that erodes into the darkness of the night, I feel the emptiness growing at the speed of light.

The pitch black of night getting darker, causing turbulence within my wings, preventing me from flying towards the future.

The scent of hollowness of failure and regression creeping within my lungs, reminding me of reality and lost hope.

I can taste the bitterness of past within these narrow walls that fall with a simple touch. Without them, I would be lost, yet they're so thin on the verge of destruction.

It's four a.m. and the engine roars. I disappear without notice into my universe. It was mine to begin with–mine to define.

Through every piece of earth that touches my skin, I've gained strength. I've gained strength beneath my wings.

Land

"Land"
2010

(Villanelle)

Landscapes and nature are shown in broad light,
Shiny cars are gone, but trees are still shown;
The land will not fail, the fields are so bright.

Men plow down our life; now tonight we fight.
Destruction is here, now our green is blown;
Landscapes and nature are shown in broad light.

Why do we suffer? Why do we fright?
What’s ours is lost, and nature has grown;
The land will not fail, the fields are so bright.

One day will come where peace might be trite,
The faces of earth have now turned to stone;
Landscapes and nature are shown in broad light.

I will try and help, and guard earth like knights,
The leaves are now spread, and dirt is now thrown;
The land will not fail, the fields are so bright.

The thought of my land’s a beautiful sight,
My nature is great, and that’s all I’ve known;
Landscapes and nature are shown in broad light.
The land will not fail, the fields are so bright.
